Most people at average risk begin colorectal cancer screening at age 45. You should start earlier if you have a personal or family history of colorectal cancer or polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, or an inherited condition such as Lynch syndrome. Does Medicare cover a screening colonoscopy?
Yes. Medicare covers screening colonoscopy with no deductible. If a polyp is removed during the exam you may owe 15 percent coinsurance, a share that is scheduled to phase down to zero by 2030. Most commercial plans must cover polyp removal during a screening exam at no cost to you. Ask the office to confirm your plan.
What insurance do you accept?

How long does a colonoscopy take?
The procedure itself usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. Plan for a longer visit overall, because you will be checked in, sedated and then monitored in recovery before you go home. You will need someone to drive you.
Is hemorrhoid banding surgery?
No. Banding is a nonsurgical treatment. Nothing is cut, and no overnight stay is needed. A small band is placed at the base of the hemorrhoid with a ligator, the blood supply is closed off, and the hemorrhoid shrinks and falls away over one to two weeks. Read the full banding FAQ.
What is the difference between an EGD and a colonoscopy?
An EGD, or upper endoscopy, examines the esophagus, stomach and first part of the small intestine through the mouth. A colonoscopy examines the colon and rectum. Symptoms decide which one you need, and some patients have both on the same day.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
Many patients come by referral from a primary care physician, though a referral is not always required. Your insurance plan is what determines this, so call the office at 502 893 7744 and the staff will check before you book.
Will I be asleep during the procedure?
You receive sedation for colonoscopy and upper endoscopy, so you will be comfortable and are unlikely to remember the procedure. Because of the sedation you cannot drive afterward and must arrange a ride home.
